Shimano 105 road bike disc brake with BR-R7170 brake caliper and mechanical-hydraulic ST-R7120 shift/brake lever

The Shimano 105 disc brake combines the BR-R7170 hydraulic brake caliper with the ST-R7120 shift/brake lever for mechanical 2x or 12-speed shifting on road bikes. The flat-mount brake caliper has 10% more brake pad clearance than previous models, minimising the likelihood of grinding noise and resulting in quieter braking. The powerful, excellently controllable braking power ensures reliable deceleration and brings you to a safe stop in all conditions. You also benefit from the user-friendly bleeding process, also known as One-Way Bleeding. With its design, the two-piece aluminium brake caliper blends in perfectly with the overall appearance of your bike. By the way, it does not weigh more than the comparable Ultegra model.
The ST-R7120 shift/brake lever impresses with its smooth shifting and strong braking performance. Its revised ergonomic design provides excellent grip comfort and accommodates different hand sizes. The distance between the handlebars and the lever has been reduced, which increases brake control and makes shifting easier. The reach of the lever can also be adjusted with the help of a hex key. ST-R7120 combines a plastic lever body with a brake lever made of lightweight aluminium and therefore weighs only about 200 grams more per pair than its electronic counterpart. A corrosion-resistant cable with Optislick coating and sufficient cable housing are included. In addition, the disc brake comes with brake hoses and organic brake pads that contribute to improved heat dissipation thanks to their Ice-Tech cooling fins.

STI Dual Control
Shimano Total Integration (STI) means the combination of braking and shifting functions in one lever, which increases safety when riding. By refining the technology, it became possible to make shifting so smooth at the front and rear that they can be triggered with just one finger. Shimano calls such levers Dual Control Levers (DCL).

One-Way-Bleeding
One Way Bleeding is a technique used on Shimano calipers that facilitates brake bleeding. The hose routing has been optimised so that no air bubbles remain in the brake calliper. In combination with the funnel, the brake can be bled cleanly and easily.
